Weddings can have the odd lull which is where games are coming in to the their own! Thoughtful couples are going all out and making sure guests are kept busy during the day with some fun entertainment – a few games are perfect for that hour or two after the ceremony or as a bit of a filler before the band kick off. If it’s a winter wedding, leave a few board games hanging about or if you’re having a summery celebration, think lawn games like old-school favourites rounders or Connect 4. Guests can enjoy a few drinks and the chats over a game of Table Tennis, challenge a mate to Giant Jenga or hedge their bets during the speeches with a sweepstake. Irish company Giant Party Solutions have some great offerings in the games department with everything from Connect 4 and Jenga to the Buzzwire challenge – find out more here!

10 Things to Remember to Do on Your Wedding Day

$

0

After months of planning, finally arriving at your wedding day is beyond exciting!! It’s a fun-filled, action packed day that you will never forget so to help you get the most out of it, we’ve rounded up 10 helpful tips…

1. Follow your morning of plan

A wedding morning timeline will be a big help when the Big Day rolls round. It can be hectic with dresses, hair and make-up and bubbles and snaps to squeeze in so having a plan to hand will help keep things under control. Set aside an hour the week before to jot one down (include times for everyone’s beauty prep, dresses, what time to leave etc.) so you’re stress free and on time on the day itself – it’ll mean more time for those precious moments with family and toasts with your girls!

Top Tip: Now is the time to delegate! It’s a good idea to appoint someone such as a bridesmaid to take care of any questions or issues that pop up during the day.

2. Make some time for those closest to you

Photo from Fiona & Sean’s real wedding by Emma Russell Photography

It’s such a big day for your family members too, particularly mums and dads so make sure to save some time for a first look, a quick chat and a hug, a special toast at some stage during the day or a dance with them – it will mean so much to them on this momentous occasion.

3. Eat & stay hydrated (we mean water!)

The nerves may be at you on the morning but it’s so important to try and have even something small for brekkie – it’s going to be a long but amazing day and you’ll need all your energy (plus you don’t want to be worrying about your tummy rumbling during the Prayers of the Faithful). It’s also a good idea to have some small snacks and some water in the car post ceremony (it might be awhile before you see a canapé with pics etc) – it’s an emotional day and one glass of champers might throw you if you’ve an empty tummy so a few bits to eat throughout the day and plenty of water will save you getting too tipsy too fast.

4. Get snaps with people you want

If you’re keen to get some photos with some important family members or mates, make sure to either give your bridesmaid a heads up so she can round up the relevant people or send your a photographer a list of important pics of family and friends you’d like in advance so you don’t miss out.

5. Spend some time alone with your new hubby/wife

It can be hard to get a minute with Aunt Mary grabbing you for a pic and Uncle Joe trying to get you a drink but over half of our real wedding couples always say try and nab a few minutes alone with your new hubby or wife, just the two of you. It’s one of their favourite parts of the day. Don’t use it to do a run through of what is or isn’t going well, simply take a few lovely minutes together to chat about how you’re feeling and toast this exciting new chapter!

6. Dance with your girls

Photo from Tara & Fionan’s real wedding by DKPHOTO

While the day is about you and your OH, your girls will have been by your side through the highs and lows of planning so make sure to let loose on the dance floor and enjoy every second of this special day you’ve planned up a storm together! Get the DJ to pop on one the gang’s favourite songs and dance your heart out with your bestest ladies by your side!

7. Drink it all in

At some stage during the reception, take a minute to step back and look around the room. All those people, yep, they’re there for you guys! It’s not often you get all your family and closest friends together in one room so it’s a pretty special occasion. Make sure to take a minute to just look around and savour this special time with all your favourite people.

8. Enjoy the details you’ve planned

Photo from Genevieve & Ronan’s real wedding by I Do Knot Wedding Planners Malta

After months of planning, it’s all come together so make sure to try and enjoy and experience all those details! Whether it’s sampling your signature cocktail you put together (or getting someone to nab one for you if you think you’ll be too busy to grab one) or savouring your delicious canapés you’ve been dreaming about since the tasting. Or if you were excited about hiring a photo booth, make sure to grab a prop and stop by with your OH or pals – you’ll be raging afterwards if you’ve got a guest book full of brilliant pics and you don’t have any of yourself complete with wedding gúna and oversized glasses…

Top Tip: Appoint someone to save you a slice of your wedding cake (wedding coordinator or MOH) so you can enjoy it with a cuppa the next day!

9. Let things go

Almost every single real wedding couple say it – the day absolutely flies by!! Before you know it, you’re cutting the cake and gearing up for your first dance which is why it’s so important to drink in every gorgeous minute. Don’t let a second get away worrying about the centrepieces or someone not having a good time. You’ve planned your heart out and even if a few things go awry, you’re more than likely the only one who’ll notice anyway! Which leads us nicely to…

10. Be happy

After months, possibly years of planning – it’s here – YOUR wedding day! Take a minute to let it sink in and give yourself a pat on the back for this incredible celebration you’ve pulled off. Don’t let anything come between you and those happy feelings and the reason behind this special day – you and your partner’s love story!

12 Incredibly Cute Ideas for Kids at Weddings

$

While some couples choose to have an adults only event for their Big Day, others feel the day wouldn’t be complete without their adorable kids or nieces and nephews making themselves known. The kids at weddings debate is one that divides our forums constantly and whatever side you’re on will be the right one for you. If you do opt to have the littlies around for the celebrations, there’s a few things you can do to make sure everything goes smoothly and ensure they have lots of fun too. If you’re looking to make a bit of a fuss of them, pop a kids only sign on their table or cordon off a little play area just for them (the ‘no adults’ allowed sign is genius!).

Other adorable ideas we’ve come across include cute place cards and kid-friendly snacks like milk and cookies and their very own party packs to keep them amused – Irish company Flutter Tree have beautiful wedding inspired Flutterwood Kits that are just perfect (see below!). These wooden craft kits click together to form a wedding scene and come with stickers and crayons so they can be decorated too – ideal entertainment during the speeches! They come in a handy drawstring bag so the kids can easily bring them home and there are two wedding scenes or a woodland themed pack to choose from – click here for more info! We’re also loving the idea of having some lawn games that both the big kids (ahem adults) and little folk alike can have some fun with. Irish company Giant Party Solutions rent out Giant Jenga, Connect 4 and Buzzwire Challenge which would be a big hit with guests regardless of age.

If you’re looking to go all out and really treat the guests with kids, one of the best things you can do is hire some entertainment or a professional childminder who can keep the kids busy for a couple of hours. There are several companies that specialise in childcare at weddings – the popular Fun ‘n Frills provide Supervised Portable Activity Areas for children at weddings. They set up in the ballroom so the kids can see you and vice versa and have lots of crafts and games to keep them entertained. FUNtastic Childcare Events also gets rave reviews, have tons of childcare experience and come armed with goody bags to keep the kids happy. Or if you’re after a fun activity to keep them busy during the speeches, magician Magic Carl and his little companion, Mr Fluffy the magic rabbit will amaze them and have them giggling away with his awesome tricks and fun balloon models. Check out more brill ideas below!

We got a lot of compliments on the band choice and the dance floor was full all night. The DJ was also excellent and a very nice man. We had a great evening and we really appreciate their great work! Very organised and professional from day one so they made our lives very easy.”

Sway Social | View Profile

“Just wanted to say that you lads did an amazing job at our wedding last Friday. The dance floor was full the whole night and everybody just loved the music. Music is really important to us and you all did such an amazing job in getting everybody up on the dance floor and creating a brilliant atmosphere. We also couldn’t bear the thoughts of doing a first dance and you helped us in getting around this perfectly! Within seconds the dance floor was full to the sound of The Black Eyed Peas. It was brilliant! Afterwards Gavin did an amazing job as DJ and played all my very many requests. Thank you all so much! I would highly recommend this band/DJ. You all gave us the best party ever and we will have brilliant memories!”

Deirdre & Hugh – Married March 2018

Surefire Trio | View Profile

“Surefire Trio played at our wedding reception and they were fantastic! We told Roy the kind of music we liked as we were going for a rock vibe and the guys totally delivered. The guests loved them and lots of people were asking about them during the evening! Also, right after the first dance finished the guys kicked things off with Everybody Needs Somebody to Love from The Blues Brothers which is Liam’s favourite movie which was an awesome surprise and set the tone for the rest of the night. Roy was a pleasure to deal with and set out the details of everything at the beginning and was always quick to respond to any queries I had. We had a blast and we’re so glad that ye were there to help us celebrate!”

Liam & Kelly – Married December 2017

All Talk Wedding Band | View Profile

“Well what can I say but AMAZING. We got married on 22nd March 2018 in Trim Castle Hotel. From the first time we heard your voice Aisling I knew All Talk was the band for us. Every one of our guests were amazed and are still talking about how great you were. It took me a few days to recover from all the dancing! Thank you all again. Aisling you really have an amazing talent. If I could give 100 stars I would! You were so accommodating to us when we had to change our dates due to our son’s due date being so close to our original date. We can’t thank you enough for that. We really were delighted you were available for our new date.”

Michelle & Gregory – Married March 2018

The Beat Boutique | View Profile

“Wow what can we say but a massive thank you for playing our wedding last Friday. From start to finish the music was amazing and to add to that, you are lovely guys and a pleasure to have had join us on our day. Everyone was raving about the music so thank you so much for adding to a great night!”

Fiona & Mark – Married February 2018

The Mixtape | View Profile

We were looking for a band that made us feel like we were at a really good gig and these guys totally delivered. They exuded positive energy and really contributed to what was an incredible night for everyone. They have a massive repertoire so can play all eras and made everyone feel included. They were fantastic and great to deal with. We are so happy we chose such an outstanding band for our day and we highly recommend them.”

Jen & Ben – Married April 2018

Panic Animal | View Profile

“These guys are Band of the Year for good reason. They are fantastic musicians and you won’t regret booking them for a second, they were everything we could have wished for and more! Also they are amazing people, our youngest has additional needs and I can’t put into words how much their willingness to show him their instruments and to make him comfortable meant to us as a family. Thanks Ali, Brian and the guys for everything, we couldn’t recommend you highly enough if we tried.”

Keara & Gary – Married April 2018

Santoria – Ireland’s Premier Soul Band | View Profile

“If you’re thinking of booking Santoria- do it, quickly! They were nothing short of excellent, both in communicating with us in advance and in particular their performance at our wedding. We had so many comments from guests about how fantastic the music was both at the ceremony and the party and the dance floor was full all night. Not only are Shane, Linzi and the crew hugely talented, they are also just lovely people and a pleasure to deal with. They even learned a version of an old house tune for our first dance- we genuinely couldn’t have asked for more.”

Becky – Married October 2017

Harlequin Wedding Band | View Profile

“Can’t say enough positive things about Harlequin. The music and entertainment were outstanding all night, had the dance floor filled from start to finish, with an incredible show. The energy levels of the entire band, and especially the lead singer Shane, were unreal – well worth every penny. Highly recommend them!”

Naomi & Brendan – Married January 2018

The Connor Mc Keon Band | View Profile

“The Connor Mc Keon band were fantastic and all our guests complimented on how great they were. The highlight of the night for Louise and I was their version of Crazy Little Thing Called Love for our first dance. We had rehearsed a dance routine to the song, and the live version really made it magical! They also suggested a great live alternative for the father daughter song too, Isn’t She Lovely, by Stevie Wonder. It went down a storm! The band were so good, our guests will be talking about that for many years to come! We could not have been happier with how they played on the night. They were extremely professional, patient and magical. Highly recommended to make your wedding day that extra bit special.”

How to Choose the Right Wedding Date for You

$
0
0

There’s this funny thing that happens when you get engaged. The second someone takes a peek at your new engagement ring, the first question they ask is “So, when’s the big day?”. You’ll probably find that you are not alone if you didn’t pick your date immediately, or if you didn’t start planning your wedding before getting engaged.

These days, picking a wedding date is a little more complicated than phoning your local church or registry and asking which Saturday in June they have available. There is a lot more to consider. So, if you are in the process of trying to select the right wedding date, we’ve got a few things for you to consider, which will make this decision easier.

Choosing Your Date

A special date

Wouldn’t it be romantic if you could exchange vows on the anniversary of your first date? Or maybe you could get married on the same date as your parents 25th wedding anniversary. Think about significant dates in your relationship and in your families and see if any of those would be a perfect fit.

Think about the season

When you picture your wedding, do you picture a big garden wedding in the sun or a cosy indoor wedding full of candles? Think about which season of the year you want to get married and narrow down your search to dates within that time of year.

Consider when you can get time off

Will you only have two weeks out of the year to get married and go on honeymoon? Knowing when you can get some time off work is a good piece of information to keep in mind. This is helpful information if you want to go on honeymoon shortly after the Big Day, or if you plan on taking a couple of days off before and after the wedding.

Plan around your venue

If you know where you want to get married, that’s a great place to start. If this is the case, find out when your dream wedding venue is available and pick your date based on their availability.

Think about your budget

There are a few months in each year that are considerably more expensive than others. A wedding in the middle of summer is typically a pricey one since that’s a popular time of year to get married. If you are on a budget, you might want to consider getting married during the quieter, winter months, or perhaps on an unconventional day. Weekday weddings are becoming more popular, but they are still more budget-friendly than Saturday weddings.

Consult your loved ones

Now, we don’t recommend that you extend this discussion to every single family member and friend that you intend to invite to your wedding, but there will be a handful of people whose attendance is important to you. Ask those loved ones when they’ll be in the country, or not have to work, and so on. This is also about respectfully including your family and letting them know what you’ve got in mind.

10 Planning Stages All Engaged Couples Can Relate to

$

Every planning journey is different, but with each of these planning stages, you know you are getting ever closer to the day. And when you reach the final one, you will be practically at the church door! Let’s see where you are right now and what’s still ahead.

Above photo from Brenda & Scott’s real wedding by The Fennells

You get engaged and suddenly you have extra friends

So you start this wedding journey with a ring (it could be a tattoo, whatever you wish). The ring seems to have some superpowers, because you are getting a lot of new attention. At work, from your distant family… some days, you feel like everyone’s favourite person. It’s great, isn’t it? And everyone wants to know everything about the wedding too! Ah, life is good. At this stage, be as enthusiastic as you like, but don’t invite everyone to the wedding. You will soon need a football pitch!

The Questions…

When you get together, people ask, ‘when are you getting engaged?’ Then you get engaged, people ask, ‘when are you getting married?’ Then you set the date, and they say, ‘where are you going on your honeymoon?’ Mark our words, on the day of the wedding, they will be asking about houses and babies if you don’t have them already. The questions always seem to be one step ahead of your own life.

Above image from Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort and Spa, Philippines

You get an irresistible urge to say yes to everything

At the start, every budget looks healthy and strong, even if it’s small. With your smarts, spreadsheets and calculators, there’s no way you’ll go over, right? Sure, until you start seeing things you love, and that will be EVERYTHING. Your other half may also confess he’s always wanted to arrive at his own wedding in a… Batmobile. You may have been a big fan of a small budget, but then you saw a castle and you fell in love. Hold your horses, if you can! Once you get past this turning point, all money decisions will be easier. And speaking of decisions…

Decision exhaustion

Who knew there were so many decisions to be made? As one bride we know said, ‘I never thought I’d be worrying about the colour of napkins’. Anyone you go to see, they just ask you more questions. Your email inbox is bursting at the seams too. Was there ever really a time when you thought this would be FUN? When you reach this planning stage, all you need is a bit of a break. Unless you have to give someone an answer by tomorrow, ignore them! Arrange as much wedding-free time as your commitments allow, and come back ready to tackle the rest.

The arguing phase

Yep, it happens to every couple. We’d venture to say, we never met a couple whose planning was one joyous trip towards the altar. Couples argue over everything: too little help, too much help, spending too much, spending on wrong things, stag and hen dos, the size of wedding… you name it, a battle has been fought over it. If you reach this difficult planning stage, is your wedding doomed? Of course not! Think of it as a good chance to practice the art of compromise. It will come in handy for your married years.

The making of the guest list

The guest list can come with its fair share of drama – from your Dad trying to wangle an invite for a golf buddy to your MIL suggesting you invite a cousin your OH hasn’t seen in 10 years! Here’s a good tip before you even start: agree, from the very beginning, that you’ll back each other up no matter what. This way, anyone who tries to influence (bribe, threaten) you about adding or removing someone, they will have to face the two of you standing united. Seal the deal with a high five, and consider this battle won. Until…

Above image from Lorna & Andrew’s real wedding by Mark Donovan Photography

Eloping seems like an attractive idea

This usually happens around two-thirds into the planning. For some reason, you thought things would get less hectic as the big day draws nearer… but in fact, it’s quite the opposite. When you reach the most frustrating moment of all time, you’ll turn to your other half and say, ‘hey, how about we run away?’ You will actually seriously consider this for a second. And then… you’ll either do it, or you’ll wake up tomorrow giggling about how silly you both were. All those deposits you’d lose!

The worry…

… That you won’t have enough – of everything! What if there’s not enough food? What if people are bored – do I need more entertainment? As the day gets closer it’s easy to second-guess absolutely every decision you’ve made along the way and wedding worries set in. And of course you start to play out worst possible scenarios in your head as well like the car getting lost on the way to the ceremony or the priest not showing up. Worry not, a team of wedding professionals have your back and do this day in, day out. And people know they’re not attending a festival or carnival. They’re there to see two people they care about celebrate and will be happy with a good meal and some dancing.

Photo from Samantha & Barry’s real wedding by Kevin Morris Photography

The panic something will go wrong

Repeat after us: something WILL go wrong at the wedding, and it won’t be a big deal. It’s completely true, you know. In the end, when your guests are all downing champagne, loving the food, and laughing all the way until the last boogie, it won’t matter that they got served a different dessert, or the schedule ran a bit over time. The next morning, you will say, so what? It was still a wonderful wedding and nobody noticed a thing. Now where’s our breakfast?

The total conviction you are doing the right thing

As if by magic, you get the best feeling: total confidence in your decision. It’s just a few days before the wedding now, and you simply can’t wait. You know you will be standing beside the love of your life, in front of people who care about you, saying loud and proud how you feel. And then, you’ll eat the fabulous food you chose, party all night long, and wake up very happy (and probably very dishevelled) the next day. This is it. You’re almost there!

How Much Does a Wedding Video Cost?

$
0
0

We can’t stress enough what an amazing investment a wedding video is – there is nothing quite like getting to watch back your very own wedding day once the celebrations have been and gone, reliving all the action! But how much do you need to budget for a wedding video? We enlisted the help of Rowan Gallagher from Kaper Video who talks us through how much a wedding video costs and why. Over to Rowan…

The most common enquiry every wedding video supplier gets; ‘Are you available on X date and how much does your wedding video cost.’ It’s a reasonable question, but a price is built up of many factors and no two videographers offer an identical service or have the same style.

The average couple in 2018, who gets married in Ireland, spends €26,015 overall with €1,283 of that going towards the wedding video cost, according to a survey by weddingonline.ie in early 2018. The minimum you’ll likely pay is €800-900 and the higher-end videographers will be €2,000+.

Weddings videos cost what they do for a good reason. The best advice is to watch the samples and check availability of two or three that seem within budget. Want a wedding video that’s better than average? You will likely need to budget more than the average price for it. There are a few things that contribute to the price.

Number of videographers

Delivering a great wedding video is possible with just a single shooter, however there are many advantages to having two or more available, similar to having two photographers – but as you can imagine that comes at a premium.

Traditional or cinematic

Cinematic wedding videos are becoming more and more popular, usually require more expertise and time to produce. This, of course, comes with a price premium.

Hours of coverage

Arguably, the next biggest factor for wedding video cost is the length of coverage, couples don’t usually realise, but staying until the first few dances usually means a number of hours waiting around, especially if speeches are before the meal. A full day, from prep in both houses to the first few dances is usually 12+ hours of coverage.

Cinematic vs Traditional

Left: camcorder | Right: mirrorless camera

It’s hard to describe with 100% accuracy the general difference between a cinematic and traditional videographer. Each supplier has a very different style and taste plus some are in a middle ground while transitioning from the traditional production to something more cinematic.

Traditional

  • Generally shoot on camcorders (but not always)
  • Give a chronological blow by blow account of the day
  • Videos are usually longer, 1.5 hours +
  • The entire video is usually in focus all the time (large depth of field)
  • Usually cheaper but not always

Cinematic

  • Shoot on DSLRs or mirrorless cameras or even higher end cameras with interchangeable lenses (similar to the type and size of a photographers camera)
  • May tell a story with the day using audio to drive the narrative and not necessarily in chronological order
  • Some portions of the video will intentionally have out of focus areas (shallow depth of field)
  • Can be more expensive

Cheat-sheet to get the best from your video

From left to right, the comparative resolution of a DVD vs HD vs UHD 4k

– Get a USB not a DVD – DVD is a low resolution format which is far below the current standard resolution for video. Go for HD at least and get a USB or download of you video

– Pick up the microphone even if you think the crowd can hear you

– Don’t pace around when making your speech

– Have the speeches before the meal

– Say something heartfelt in the speeches, it helps with the narrative

– Tell your videographer if there is a big set piece happening i.e. you’re doing a gift exchange or your father is on the way and about to see you for the first time in your dress

– Tell your guests to avoid photos during ceremony and speeches

– Have fun and forget the videographer is there!

– Everyone has 5-star reviews across the board, samples are the best way to pick a videographer

– Your friend’s taste in wedding videos may be very different to yours, so always watch samples

– If you can afford it, have a team of two videographers to capture all the angles and moments

– Let your videographer choose the music

– Don’t ask to use unlicensed music as it is illegal

18 Things to Leave Out for Your Wedding Morning Prep

$

With your ceremony possibly kicking off at 1/1.30pm, it can seem like you’ve got all the time in the world on your wedding morning… but believe us, like the day itself, it flies by so organisation is key! It’s worth planning in advance and having a few things to hand so that you’re ready to roll the minute the beauty squad arrive on your wedding day.

When it comes to choosing where you’ll be getting ready (if it’s at home), make sure there’s good natural lighting and there’s enough room for your hair stylist, makeup artist and all the gang – you’ll be having the photographer and videographer popping in and out too. And give the room a tidy the night before so that there’s no laundry basket full to the brim lurking in the corner of your precious wedding photos.

The morning itself will be full of gorgeous memories with your family and closest ladies and you want to enjoy every last minute – make sure there’s zero stress and leave out the following essentials so you’re good to go on the Big Day…

1. Your wedding dress – this one is obvious but make sure to cut off any tags (same applies to tags on jewellery, veil etc.)

2. A hanger for your wedding dress – a pretty hanger will make sure your gúna looks the part

2. Your gorgeous new wedding shoes – break them in at least a week beforehand so there’s no painful surprises on the morning and take the stickers off the bottom the day before

3. Insoles – check if you need them in advance and pop a pair in your getting ready pile if so

Photo from James & Christine’s real wedding by Sean Jefferies Photography

4. Fun wedding buys you’ve picked up such as ‘I Do’ stickers for your shoes, a getting ready sign for the door of your bridal quarters, a cute ring dish for your engagement ring (make sure to give it a clean so it’s super sparkly for the Big Day) etc.

5. Your wedding underwear – don’t forget the likes of tape

6. Your garter if you’re wearing one

6. Jewellery and accessories – pop all your bits and pieces together such as a veil, headpiece, bag, earrings, necklace, etc.

7. Your something blue if you’re going down this route, and same goes for old, borrowed and new

8. Perfume – this special scent makes a great pic for your wedding album as well

9. PJs/Robe to get ready in – FYI button down works best so you don’t mess your hair/make-up

10. Slippers/flip flops – it’s going to be a busy morning so make the most of some cosy flats before slipping in to the heels

11. Gifts for your parents/bridesmaids or the pressie from your partner if you’ve arranged a gift exchange! Have them handy so you don’t have to start rummaging at the back of the wardrobe

12. Anything you want photographed such as your wedding invite and map, a countdown sign with your hours to go, a special card or gift that you received, or wedding handkerchief

13. Have the bubbly and glasses ready to go for the bridal party and any nibbles/snacks

14. Laptop/iPod/Speakers for your wedding morning playlist – check out some great songs to add to yours here. Make sure to have a charger handy too if you’re using your phone for tunes

15. Timetable for your morning – we highly recommend making one the week before the wedding as it will keep you on track. Be sure to include slots for hair, makeup, getting dresses on, photos, toasts, first looks and when to leave.

16. Wedding emergency kit – check out what to include here

17. Tissues – just in case, it can be emotional morning and a sweet gift might just tip you over the edge!

18. Make sure there’s a mirror in the room, chairs for the hair/makeup and a bin for any rubbish to keep the room tidy

Wedding Videography 101 – Our Experts Answer All Your Questions!

Like your photographs, your wedding video is one of those things you will treasure after your Big Day as you get to relive the magical day over and over again. There are so many reasons hiring a videographer is an no-brainer – we can’t think of anything better than getting to watch what will be 100% one of your all time favourite days all over again whenever you want from precious moments like exchanging vows or that special dance with your dad to footage of your aunts and uncles giving it loads on the dance floor! It’s a decision no couple ever regrets.

When it comes to wedding videos, certain questions pop up time and time again so today we’ve asked our experts – the wedding videographers themselves, some of the most popular questions we come across so you know just how much work goes into creating that masterpiece.

White & Gold Cinematic Films | View Profile

What factors make up the price of a wedding video?

The main factors that make up pricing is filming on the day, travel costs, editing time and packaging of product to send off to the client. I also take a good bit of time emailing couples ahead of the big day to really tailor the film to them. It’s not just about a cookie cutter process of making a video. Add that all up and that’s how much it costs.

What are the different styles and what is the difference?

My work is about being personal to the client, so they really know me and then they can be themselves. Irish people in particular aren’t exactly comfortable being filmed and hearing or seeing themselves on camera so there is a trust in what I do to make couples feel at ease. All of that can be seen in the final film.

Have you any other advice?

Delegate as many jobs as you can for the day so you personally don’t have to do much and then trust that it will get done. Sweating the small things will ruin a really great day.

How much does a wedding video cost and what factors make up the price?

I think there is a wide price range for wedding videography in Ireland. I have heard of prices ranging from under €1,000 up to €4,000 and above. When looking at the cost of a wedding video, there are many variables to consider. The most obvious are what level of coverage is being provided and whether the service is being provided by a solo videographer or an entire team. It is important to remember that videographers tend to vary a lot in terms of their experience and creative vision, and these factors often play a role in their pricing structure.

What are the different styles and what is the difference?

There are currently two main styles of wedding videography: traditional and cinematic. Traditional is best summed up as a longer, more “as it happens” style of wedding video. It is usually very comprehensive in nature. Cinematic wedding videography is around for a while now. It usually involves producing shorter, more creative wedding films which tell an emotion-charged story mixing in visual and audio sound bites from the day. The production values are often much higher than traditional video. The footage is usually more cinematic in nature, i.e. smooth camera movement and less static shots. At Keith Malone Wedding Films, I have created my own style which borrows the best bits from the two main styles of traditional and cinematic. I’ve termed this style “tradimatic”!

How much does a wedding video cost?

The cost of a professional wedding video can vary from €1200 – €3000.

What factors make up the price?

The main factors the make up the price are shooting on the wedding day, editing, equipment, human resources, insurance and music.

What are the different styles and what is the difference?

There are two main styles:

Documentary style: normally single operator who may use multiple cameras to create a linear account of your day from Bridal Prep to First Dance, it may or may not include a highlight clip.

Wedding Film/Cinematic style: These consist of a short cinematic creative edit of your wedding day. Normally around 10-30 min. These edits would have multiple camera and operators, drone and exceptional audio. They would also use additional equipment for stabilisation and effects. The videographer may also offer creative direction and ideas to the couple. The final product would encapsulate all the emotion, fun and laughter of the wedding day in a short cinematic edit, just like you would see on TV.

Have you any other advice?

When booking a videographer don’t always look at price. Check out some of their samples and drop them a mail or give them a buzz and have a chat and ask any questions you may have.

How much does a wedding video cost and what factors make up the price?

A wedding video varies greatly in cost. One of the most obvious reasons is quality or ‘You get what you pay for’. The reason for this is the amount of work that is put into your DVD. Couples may think that charging €1000 plus for a videographer is a large amount but it’s often forgotten that there are days of editing and sound mixing and colour correcting afterwards. Not to mention the extra special edits that may be included like 5 minute highlight movies that require great care and attention.

Also, you are paying for high-end cameras and wireless microphones that are essential to making your DVD look and sound professional. Just like photography, there is a fine art to filming a wedding successfully. With over 14 years behind the camera now, I’m still as passionate about wedding videography as I was when I started out.

Have you any other advice?

One of the biggest regrets couples have is not hiring a videographer. There is a reason for this – a wedding videographer captures your wedding day like no other supplier. A wedding movie is like a time capsule. Not only are you seeing and hearing your family and friends celebrate around you, you are also seeing what you missed in the whirlwind of your big day. Edited and paced using music and storytelling, it will be something you will revisit more often than you might think.

I am often told by my clients that the money they spent hiring me to document their wedding was the best money they spent that day. I’m always honoured to hear this.

VowArt Videography | View Profile

How much does a wedding video cost?

Cost literally depends on what you want from your wedding film. A regular video which will take you straight back to 80s costs between €600-700 – you can’t expect much but if that’s your ‘style’ you should be happy with it. High-quality cinematic weddings films cost between €1700-3000 and more. Yes, they are not cheap but believe us with the higher price comes unforgettable experience.

What factors make up the price?

There are many factors that make up the price, but let’s put it this way, an experienced high-end wedding cinematographer will do his best to deliver a premium product. Meeting clients and making sure both sides are the perfect match is a common practice. We are not just booking weddings, we want to make sure we book the right clients who are looking for a particular style. From the beginning until the final delivery of the wedding film, our clients know they invested in a luxurious brand and that comes with the price.

What are the different styles and what is the difference?

At the moment it’s very hard to define all the styles: modern, non-traditional, and of course, cinematic (Warning! Today every videographer uses the word Cinematic to describe his/her style but in many cases their work has nothing to do with that style). Just make sure you find the style you like, check out Instagram or Facebook for inspiration and we guarantee you will be delighted with your wedding film.

Have you any other advice?

To all future brides and grooms! Please do not try to save on your wedding videographer because you spent over 2k on your photographer. Both photography and video are equally important and prices are on par. Booking one of the best wedding cinematographers in Ireland like VowArt gives you not just an amazing wedding film but also a superb experience on the day!

Cyril Fox – Video Me Productions | View Profile

How much does a wedding video cost?

The price of a professional videographer starts at approximately €1200 depending on where and for how long and can rise up to €2500.

What factors make up the price?

Prices can vary depending on your requirements – it can be determined by how sophisticated you want the end result to be. If you’d like a Hollywood production using 3 cameramen/women and the use of drones, all this really does take time and skill, not to mention hours in the edit suite to make it look as spectacular as you envisaged. The second choice is a more simpler day where the videographer and assistant just film the day as is and get everything that is required without the massive extra cost incurred by the big production. Your choice entirely.

What are the different styles and what is the difference?

All of us have styles that have been crafted over years and to say one style fits for all weddings may not be true. The wedding held on the Cliffs of Moher may be dramatically different than one out in your back garden in a marquee so having a look at the videographer’s portfolio will give you a good insight as to what is available.

Have you any other advice?

We’re your eyes for the day, concentrating on what may go unnoticed to you, as you’re preoccupied with your special day. Be assured that the wedding will be a priceless record of your celebration.

With email I do find that that the art of conversation has died and what gets translated in a chat often is overlooked in another one of the emails so I would advise any couple to try and make the effort to meet the videographer who will be responsible for recording your most important day.

What are the different styles and what is the difference?
Weddings are all about TIME. For a wedding day to go according to plan, time has to be used wisely.  The primary reason wedding days get out of hand is poor and/or unrealistic time management. One of the main reasons couples book me, and one of the main reasons photographers recommend me, is because of the way I shoot on a wedding day which helps to maximize time spent enjoying your day with family and friends.

I shoot weddings unobtrusively – so you, your loved ones and guests won’t notice me too much as I work away. It’s very much a fly-on-the-wall shooting style, capturing natural reactions, without having to pose people or ask them to do anything except enjoy the day. For example, when filming around guests, I use a small DSLR camera body, so people are generally less ‘aware’ of the camera in this instance. It also allows photographers who wish to engage more with people at the wedding to maintain their concentration without interruption, to keep their rapport going with the people in front of their lens, and to keep the attention of people with very short attention spans. I don’t want people paying attention to my camera at all. The shooting style I use simply works. I take what I’ve shot, and I craft a mixture of cinematic and documentary styles, providing you with the best of both worlds. I’d love to hear from you!

Small Unusual Wedding? 8 Ideas Coming Right Up!

So you’d rather have hiccups for the rest of your life than 160 guests at your wedding. We get ya! You are the small unusual wedding type of gal (and your other half is quite happy with the idea too). So what’s next? Pick a place that will surprise those lucky few guests who will be invited. Less planning stress and a smaller budget are just your icing on the cake.

Keep it simple: city hall/church and dinner afterwards

Going out to dinner instead of having a wedding reception really isn’t a strange choice. You only have to make sure you pick a place that will blow your socks off. Feel free to consider everything: Michelin stars, celeb hangouts, the sky’s the limit, but one thing is a must: the food reviews have to be the best you have ever seen. There really isn’t a better time to splash on a top-notch restaurant than for your (small unusual) wedding day.

The surprise factor: anything but a venue

Above image by snippetandink.com

Chances are, you have a lot of hidden gems in your local area, or in a town nearby. Some locations to consider: art galleries, vintage cinemas, the zoo, the aquarium, museums, theme parks… you’d be surprised how many of these will be glad to accommodate a small unusual wedding, even if they don’t advertise it. Count on the location to provide the wow factor for a guaranteed unforgettable reception.

Return to memories: a significant place

Do you and your OH have a place that means a lot to you, and is it suitable for a wedding? This could be the pub where you had your first date, and you still love returning there. An outdoor space where he proposed, and where you could pitch a summertime tent and have a BBQ. The local uni library where you studied together. They all make fabulous unusual wedding places! One thing you must check: whether you require any kind of permit. If it’s an outdoor space not normally used for celebrations, any vendor should be able to point you in the right direction.

The getaway: fly everyone somewhere nearby

Above, a tiny wedding in London by london-bride.com

Keep it close so nobody has to take too much time off work or suffer jetlag. But of course, if you want to take everyone to New York, go right ahead! Think of all the destinations a short flight away from your nearest international airport. Research some future flights and packages for two or three-night stays, and your budget will start to take shape. You are giving your guests not just a small unusual wedding to look forward to, but a mini city break. How much you do things together is up to you, but it’s really nice when everyone gets to go and do their own thing, then meet again for dinner in the evening and talk about their adventuring.

Go with the flow: rent a boat

How big the boat, that’s up to you! You can still have a small unusual wedding on a 100-foot yacht, why not. Do you just want to dine on it, or dance too? Do you want to sail while you celebrate, or stay moored? As the saying goes, do whatever rocks your boat. The only thing you really really need is a solid Plan B in case the weather lets you down (although you can still stay and party on a moored boat under the deck).

Like in a movie: the local park

Above image by b-freedweddings.com

Checking for any permits is a must here, but that may only be necessary if you are having your ceremony there too. For a reception, as long as it’s a public place, you most likely won’t need anything. Have a picnic in the park! BBQ, casual dress code, blankets, delish light snacks, lots of love and affection while you all sit and eat surrounded by trees and other people. Hats and sunglasses will make perfect favours for everyone.

Be a superfan: stadium, recording studio, GAA stadium, battlefield

Couples with strong passions for a particular sport, team, band or historical venue should definitely follow their hearts. It is possible to marry at most stadiums, with the added bonus of the on-site restaurant (stadiums usually have hospitality down to a T). Is your love strong for the local music scene or particular band? Find out if you can rent a recording studio, or one where your fave band recorded their biggest selling album (go ahead and invite the lead singer, you just never know!) We know couples who are really into history, so they got married at a historically significant site (like, yes, a battlefield!) If you follow your passion, you can’t go wrong.

Where the heart is: celebrate at home

Above image from intimateweddings.com

Got a garden big enough to get all the guests in? Or your parents have one? Beautiful. All you need for your small unusual wedding is cover (tent), seats, food and drinks. Make it a DIY wedding too by asking the guests to bring something simple but homemade: cakes, favours, finger foods. This is a perfect scene for couples who don’t like fussy or formal, because it’s really hard to be formal when walking barefoot on grass and sitting on lawn chairs.

There are certain parts of wedding planning that are notoriously stressful and certain parts of the day that can give you sleepless nights (ahem, first dance and speeches). Planning a wedding is a big task and if you’re feeling overwhelmed along the way, you may want a wedding professional to step in and give you a hand. Here are 6 services and weddings pros that can help make your planning journey a little bit easier…

1. Wedding Planners

If organising and planning aren’t your forte, you may like to enlist the help of a wedding planner to help you navigate your wedding planning journey and keep you sane! The brilliant thing about a wedding planner is that they have a book jammed full of wedding contacts so they can possibly get you great deals and discounts plus they’re a pro at dealing with dilemmas and decision-making. They’ll help you keep on top of everything from your budget to when to book things.

2. Birth Cert – Sorted

There’s no doubt about it, the paperwork side of wedding planning can be painful and wedding ceremonies include a lot of it! Regardless of where you’re getting married whether it’s a church, civil, interfaith, spiritual or humanist ceremony, you will need to give a minimum of three months’ notice to the state of your intention to marry – you can book an appointment with your local registrar office online here or you can find a list of Registrar Offices and telephone numbers here.

There’s a list of things you will need to bring to that appointment (read all about what to bring and what’s involved here) including Photo ID, proof of address, PPS numbers, the name of your two witnesses and an Original Long Birth Certificate for both parties plus a colour photocopy. If you’re looking to get your hands on your Original Long Birth Certificate, Irish Certs, Ireland’s premier online certificate service can supply you with this – you simply fill in your details online and they’ll post it out to you (they can also supply marriage certs FYI in case you need a copy at some stage after the Big Day)! Find out more about their service here.

3. Dance Instructor

Photo from Thomas & Jessie’s real wedding by Sinead Firman Photography

Choosing a first dance song can be hard enough, but for some couples the thought of mastering some moves to go with it is terrifying. Not many of us are used to strutting our stuff in full view of our closest family and friends which is a why a little guidance can be much needed! If you’re dreading being in the spotlight, some dance lessons are a great way to build your confidence, perfect your moves and get plenty of practice in. There are several Irish companies that offer one-to-one classes where you can learn the basics or a full, fabulous choreographed routine. You can book dance lessons with I Know a GuyViva School of Dance and Michelle Alonzi.

4. Speech Experts

Like the first dance, the speech can strike fear in many a person! If you’re sweating at the thought of 1. trying to put a speech together, 2. and the thought of reciting said speech in front of a room full of your favourite people, there are companies that can be of assistance. If you’re need of some guidance, Janie Lazar is a celebrant that also specialises in Wedding Speech Coaching. Janie provides professional speech coaching on a one to one basis (read some of Janie’s top tips here) as well as group coaching sessions where anyone from the Groom to the Father of the Bride can learn how to craft and deliver their speech. Groups are small and a one to one follow-up session is included. Find out more here.

Or if you’re struggling with words, Poems To Go can come to the rescue and create a beautiful personalised poem just for you based on details you give them. They’re just one minute long so are the ideal solution for anyone struggling with the idea of public speaking. Poems To Go can also put together heartfelt or amusing toasts and speeches that range from 1-5 minutes or longer.

5. The Table Plan

Table Plan by Table Plan Designs

On Pinterest, everything looks easy but it can be a different story when you’ve an easel, a glue gun and a bunch of people to get seated. If you want your table plan to look amazing – it’s always a focal point at receptions – Irish company Table Plan Designs are the pros! They specialise in creating beautiful bespoke table plans to match your theme or style – you send them the final guest list the day before the wedding and they’ll whip up a masterpiece for you whether you’re after a footie, music or comic themed table plan or something classic and elegant. Check out some of their stunning designs here!

6. Décor Hire & Styling

Photo from Lorna & Andrew’s real wedding by Mark Donovan Photography | Decor Styling by Finesse Weddings

Shopping for wedding decor can be lots of fun but it can also be lethal for the bank balance – it’s so easy to get swept away with lots of pretty ideas on Pinterest and either you haven’t a clue how to go about it, or you end up picking up lots of accessories you really don’t need and once the Big Day has been and gone, you’ll end up with a Done Deal account for a year trying to get rid of it all. If you’re looking to have a gorgeous look for your decor, another option is to hire a few bits and bobs or enlist the help of a stylist who can use their own amazing collection of props to create a stunning, personalised look for your day. From floral walls to letter lights and chair covers to vintage china hire, decor and event stylists will work with you whether you need help sourcing props or you’re after someone to do the styling for you.

10 Great Ways to Get Guests Involved at Your Wedding

Weddings can be the best day out in the world but with a 1pm start, they can feel on the long side for guests that have been getting glammed up since the early hours. If you’re looking to make sure there’s no major lulls and your guests feel like a big part of the day, there are some great little ideas you can work in to your wedding. Interactive and entertaining ideas like guest books, video booths and sparklers – things your guests can get involved with – will ensure they have an absolute ball. Check out some popular ideas below…

1. Have a Heartfelt Ring-Warming Ceremony

Photo via The Broke-Ass Bride

If you’re looking to get guests involved in your ceremony, one lovely way to go about it is to have a ring-warming ceremony. If you’re the nervous type, this might be best avoided but if you don’t mind your guests passing your wedding rings around so that they can make a silent wish for you guys (or say a silent prayer or blessing) as you start this amazing new chapter together, this is a lovely way to kick-start your ceremony. Invest in a cute dish or little pouch to make the passing part that bit easier!

2. Leave Out Confetti or Flags for Some Ceremony Exit Fun

Photo by Jen & Chris Creed via Southern Weddings

For the most part, guests get to sit back and enjoy the ceremony, admire the dress and possibly tear up as you say your vows but if you want to get the celebrations started early on, an upbeat, interactive ceremony exit can be great fun. The iconic confetti shot is still a popular option but with lots of venues vetoing it, some other creative exits like bubbles, flags and balloons have popped up in its place. You get some amazing photos and guests have a bit of craic as well!

3. Pop Some Song Request Cards on the Tables

Photo by Katherine Ashdown via You & Your Wedding

The dance floor is where all the action happens later on so if you want to make sure it’s jammers, this little idea is a good one. Leave some song requests cards on the table so guests can fill in the tunes that will have them up dancing – this way there’s plenty of crowd pleasers! And if you’re looking for some more great little ideas to keep the dance floor packed, be sure to check out 13 Ways to Make Sure Your Dance Floor is Packed.

4. Have Some Fun with the Speeches with Sweepstakes Slips

Photo from Sharon & Tadhg’s real wedding by Eden Photography

The speeches can be lovely but people can get a bit restless so a few games never go astray! One way to make them a little bit more interactive for guests is to leave out some speech sweepstakes slips. It will get guests mingling and chatting at their tables, plus they can have some friendly competition amongst themselves!

5. Get People Sharing Snaps with a Wedding Hashtag

Photo from Kathleen & Gary’s real wedding by The Fennells

Your wedding photos are one of the things you’ll look forward to most after the festivities and the wait can seem like forever! If you fancy getting a peek of everyone’s snaps the morning after, a wedding hashtag is definitely the way to go. Guests can upload their pics to the likes of Wed Pics or Instagram with a personalised hashtag so you have access to all the antics from the Big Day straight away.

6. Get Guests to Sign Your Guest Book

Photo by Kathy Silke | Photo from Aisling & Michael’s real wedding by ATL Photography

The guest book comes in many forms these days with everything from globes, Jenga pieces and personalised caricatures for your guests to sign. It’s one of the easiest ways to personalise your Big Day and it’s a great way to get guests involved, plus you’ve got something to look forward to reading after the wedding as well. There’s no end to the type of guest books you can have – if you want to keep things simple, Pearls and Lace Bridal Boutique, Favour Lane, HenWorld.ie and River Lane Memories have some gorgeous paper style guests books or if you’re looking for a unique alternative, be sure to check out 15 Creative Wedding Guest Books here.

7. Or Leave Some Great Advice

Another take on the more traditional guest book is to get everyone to leave some advice or suggestions. There are lots of creative ways to go about it from asking them for date night suggestions to ‘the recipe for a perfect marriage’. Check out 10 Fun Questions to Put to Your Wedding Guests here!

8. Capture all the Antics & Well Wishes with a Video Booth

Photo by Brooke Courtney Photography via Style Me Pretty

One trend that is really taking off is the video booth! Photos are one thing but having your guests’ hilarious antics, well wishes and messages on camera will provide some seriously funny post-wedding entertainment. Not to mention the fun they’ll have compiling them! Check out Irish suppliers offering this fun service here.

9. Create Some Lovely Memories with a Photo Booth

Photo from Chris and Anne’s real wedding by Emma Russell

Another brill way to get guests out of their seats and involved in your Big Day is with a photo booth or photo wall (or if you’re looking for the trend of the moment – the selfie mirror!). They won’t need much encouragement, guests will be lining up to get their photo taken and if you make it in to a photo wall or guest book feature, you’ll get to keep a copy of the pic and get some well wishes as well. Check out Irish Photo Booth suppliers in the weddingsonline supplier directory.

10. Have an Epic Ending with Sparklers All Round

Photo by Kensington Blue via Runway Chef

We LOVE sparklers and we bet you anything your guests will too! These sparkly little sticks of joy are great for getting people involved in your day whether you choose to roll them out for the arrival, first dance or as a fabulous end to the night – you’re in for some magical pics plus guests will have so much fun twirling them about.

It’s here, the day you’ve been counting down to, dreaming of and looking forward to ever since you got the ring on your finger! The wedding morning is such an exciting time – you’ve been building up to it for SO long so make sure to enjoy each and every special minute of it from cute snaps and celebratory toasts to some fun with the girls. Here are 10 things brides should defo make some time for on their wedding morning…

1. Have a lovely brekkie with your family

It’s going to be a long day so you’ll need lots of energy and what better way to kick start your day than with a lazy brekkie with your family. It can be lovely to sit back and soak up the excitement with your nearest and dearest and anticipate all the fun that lies ahead. It’s also going to be awhile before you get your hands on the canapés at the drinks reception so a bite to eat will set you up nicely for the day ahead. Your ceremony will also be taking place around lunch time and the last thing you need to be worrying about is your tummy rumbling during the Prayers of the Faithful!

2. Enjoy the pampering

Photo from Niamh & Jason’s real wedding by Emma Russell Photography

You’ve planned this day to perfection for months on end and now it’s time to sit back and soak it all up. Enjoy having an amazing hair and make-up team fuss over you and getting glammed up to within an inch of your life. Make sure you look the part with some pretty robes and PJs – they make for great photos with the girls and of course, you want to feel your best with the photographer hanging about clicking away. Check out some gorge buys here!

3. Jot down how you’re feeling

One of our real brides Nicola says of the best things she did on her wedding morning was to get up early and write a note to her hubby-to-be. “I got up early the morning of the wedding and took an hour to myself before the chaos began. I used that time to write cards to my parents, Chris and bridal party. If I had been better organised, I would have written the cards earlier that week but actually it was nice to capture how I was feeling that day, and to start the day telling those closest to me how much they mean to me.” If you’re really organised and want to relive your thoughts and feelings on this magical morning afterwards, this gorgeous idea is an absolute winner. Save a few moments to write a note to your partner or pop down how you’re feeling in your diary.

4. Toast your ladies

Photo from Niamh & Jason’s real wedding by Emma Russell Photography

If there’s ever an excuse to pop the Champagne, it’s today! Make sure to save some time to really enjoy a glass of bubbly with your dearest ladies.

5. Have a quiet moment for the gift exchange

More and more couples are choosing to exchange a little gift in honour of the Big Day that they can open as they’re getting ready. If you’ve gone down this route yourself, make sure to take a couple of minutes to yourself so you can unwrap this special pressie from your other half and think about the reason it’s all happening – your partner.

6. Make some time for your parents

Photo from Fiona & Sean’s real wedding by Emma Russell Photography

It’s a super special and emotional day for a lot of people, and your parents are right up there! The wedding morning can be a bit on the mad side with all the beauty prep and can fly by but make sure to save a few minutes for a little chat or a hug with your mum and dad, who will really appreciate some precious moments with you on such a momentous occasion.

7. And have some fun with your girls

The morning will disappear but don’t waste time stressing over details. Pop on some of your favourite tunes and have some fun with your girls! Some music will have you and your maids in party mode and will really add to the getting ready atmosphere. And if you’re looking for some awesome songs to add to your playlist – take a peek at these!

8. Make some time for photos… and some selfies

Photo from Jessica & Barry’s real wedding by Kevin Morris Photography

Your wedding photos will be incredibly special and will be ALL you want the days after! It can be nice to have a few on your phone to flick through the morning after so make sure to save a bit of time on the wedding morning for a few selfies with the family or the girls.

9. Enjoy a ‘First Look’ with your parents/maids

If you want to stick with tradition and wait until the altar to get a glimpse of your bride or your groom, you can still include this sweet ‘First Look‘ idea in to your morning with your parents, siblings or bridal party. Everyone will be dying to see you in all your wedding finery, your parents in particular and if you want to capture this emotional moment, have the photographer on standby for the big reveal. These are pics you’ll definitely treasure afterwards!

10. Get even more excited

Photo from Joanne & David’s real wedding by Peter Rowen Photography

You’re hours away from marrying the love of your life and are finally in the midst of this special day you’ve planned for months if not years. Enjoy this precious countdown and all the gorgeous moments it brings. Forget about any last minute details or things that may or may not happen, now is the time to be totally present and soak up all the excitement and fun – you’re getting married!

Your wedding day is such a special day for your family, in particular your parents so it can be lovely to include them in some small ways. The father-daughter dance is a gorgeous way to share a special moment with a very special man in your life, whether you want to waltz to a classic song you both love or opt for something a little bit more up tempo that brings you back to your childhood. There are some beautiful songs out there that are perfect for a meaningful dance like this so to give you some inspiration, we asked Twisted HitsThe CazettesDJ JoeyLate Nite Radio Band and Men in Black to share some of their favourite numbers for the father-daughter dance song. Here’s some great options…

Late Nite Radio Band | View Profile

I Loved Her First by Heartland – A great song written from a Father of the Bride’s perspective for his daughter and her new husband on their wedding day. Very popular song for us.

Your Wedding Day by Jimmy Buckley – A Waltz song but very very popular and again written by a Father for his Daughter on her wedding day. By far the most popular from this list.

Father & Daughter by Paul Simon – A beautiful song with an uplifting tempo and a great chorus about the never ending love of a Father for his Daughter. One of our favorite songs, we love playing it!

My Girl by The Temptations – An absolutely classic song with an infectious melody and appropriate lyrics for a Father & Daughter Dance Song choice. We love playing this live and it always gets everyone singing and clapping along!

Make You Feel My Love by Bob Dylan or the more recent Adele version – Another great love song but can also be interpreted as a Father’s love for his Daughter and used as a Father-Daughter dance song. We’ve played this for both a First Dance and a Father-Daughter dance song over the years. It’s such a powerful love song and known by almost everyone, more so since Adele recorded her version a few years back. Tissues at the ready for this one!

Men in Black | View Profile

1. I Loved Her First – Heartland
2. Just the Way You Are – Billy Joel
3. What a Wonderful World – Louis Armstrong
4. Isn’t She Lovely – Stevie Wonder
5. My Girl – The Temptations

The Cazettes | View Profile

1. Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison – I’ve always loved this song, and what’s brilliant about it is that everyone knows it, no matter how young or old you are! It goes down great at weddings, and it’s lovey and light-hearted.

2. My Sarah by Thin Lizzy – I performed this recently acoustically at a wedding on request of the bride’s father, who is a big Thin Lizzy Fan and named his daughter Sarah. The song was written for Phil Lynotts’ baby girl, and is a beautiful message from father to daughter.

3. You’re My Best Friend by Queen – Another classic, it’s so upbeat and has such a positive message!

4. Sunshine of My Life by Stevie Wonder – This song is always a hit at weddings, it’s great for all ages and has a lovely tempo to waltz to.

5. How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You by The Temptations – We get a lot of requests for this song, and there’s good reason – it’s a great sing-a-long and has a totally infectious happy vibe.

6. What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong – Another sure-fire classic, it can be performed slowly for a waltz style father-daughter dance, or with a little more jazz flavour for an upbeat groove.

7. Isn’t She Lovely by Stevie Wonder – Another Stevie Wonder great, this is so appropriate for a father-daughter dance!

8. My Girl by The Temptations – As soon as the opening bars start for My Girl everyone knows what’s coming next! You can expect lots of singing-along and a lovely upbeat vibe.

9. Higher & Higher by Jackie Wilson – If you’re looking for an upbeat father-daughter dance, this is the one! So much fun, all your guests will be sure to sing and clap along.

10. Unforgettable by Nat King Cole – This song has so much emotion and love written into it, it’s a great choice for an unforgettable moment.

Twisted Hits | View Profile

1. Perfect – Ed Sheeran, every girl is perfect to her dad…
2. Isn’t She Lovely – Stevie Wonder
3. You Can Call Me Al – Paul Simon for Father-Daughter with a sense of humour!
4. When You’re Smiling – Louis Armstrong
5. You are the Best Thing – Gladys Knight & the Pips
6. Just the Way You Are – Billy Joel
7. Someone to Watch Over Me – Amy Winehouse

Ask the Experts: Which Supplier Should I Book First?

Ever wondered which supplier you should book first when you start planning your wedding? We’ve asked the real experts: wedding planners!

While you’re at it, take a look at our fantastic supplier listing to find the best wedding suppliers in the biz.

Help Plan My Wedding | View Profile

The reception & ceremony venues are the most important stage of the wedding planning journey. These need to be booked first as it will determine the location and date of the wedding. Once this has been done the band, photographer and videographer should be booked as the very best ones are booked up to two years in advance.

Lyndyloo in Spain | View Profile

Here at Lyndyloo in Spain we offer our couples a viewing day to find their perfect wedding venue, once they have booked their venue the most important part of the day is to book and confirm a Minister or the person conducting the ceremony in case of a civil wedding or a Church and Priest if getting married at the Church. As we deal with weddings abroad there are not so many English speaking celebrants and Priests so we always advise to get this part of the day booked first. Everything else after this all falls into place around the ceremony.

Mary Me | View Profile

Besides the wedding planner 🙂 the venue, with no doubt.

Costa Blanca Events | View Profile

As certified and experienced wedding planners we recommend our couples to decide on the following 4 questions before doing anything else:

‘When’ is your wedding date and it may be emotional or based on climate or other reasons.

‘Where’ is the country and venue, and there are great differences in cost and organisation.

‘Who’ determines if you want to plan it yourself, or ask a wedding planner to do it for you, and this is probably one of the most ‘event-changing’ decisions.

and last but usually not less important, ‘Budget’.

Perfect Details | View Profile

Hiring a wedding planner is always a good start! However, if the couple doesn’t want to go down that route yet, or would like to arrange a few things themselves first, then there some key elements that need to be sorted out before things can move along. First and foremost should be the ceremony and reception venue. These really are key to the wedding progressing and then it’s a matter of sketching in the details around them. Once these have been arranged, the next significant pieces of the puzzle are usually the photographer, videographer and band. Many couples will have a top few vendors on their wish list and as many book up in advance, it’s important to book these as early as possible.

Rocks and Roses | View Profile

The venue, definitely – everything else flows out of that and the venue sets the tone for the whole event.

Damore Wedding Design | View Profile

As a destination wedding planner specializing in Italy, any couple who wants to get married in my beautiful country should first book their wedding reception venue AND the church in the case of Catholic marriage, with special regards to the most famous areas like Tuscany, Amalfi coast and Como lake.

These areas are very popular and they have to be booked almost one year in advance prior to the required date. During the peak season, which runs generally from the end of May up to September, any location on the Amalfi coast or Como lake should be booked even one year and a half in advance to be sure to secure the wished place.

In case of Catholic marriage, my suggestion is: before securing any place for the wedding reception, check with the chosen church if it is free for the desired date since in Italy many churches are booked Saturdays and Sundays one year in advance especially between May and September.

An alternative is: have the Catholic mass celebrated during the week and/or not during peak season.
